Start Your Own Consultancy Business

Are you considering consultancy on a self-employed basis as your next career step?

If so, your thinking might be driven by a reaction to the experiences of working for other people, a wish for increased control and autonomy in your working life, a belief that riches lie along this path, or a hope that life will be less stressful if one is self employed. Whatever your motivation, you almost certainly need a means of examining the option objectively and, if you go ahead, some practical advice and support in order to make the best possible start.

As experienced management consultants - 10 years in one of the 'big four' and 11 years running our own successful niche practice - we understand better than most about the pitfalls and opportunities that going it alone provides. We have shared this experience via small workshops or on a 1 : 1 basis with over 120 top executives from all management functions.

We aim to help people to address the following questions:

square button Is there a market for what I want to do or have experience in?

square button How do I get started and what should be my priorities?

square button Should I set up a company, a partnership - or what?

square button How do I learn the basics of the trade?

square button What is my support network? Who can I call on as colleagues?

square button How do I scope and price a job, and assess risk?

square button How do I put together a decent proposal?

square button What about the legalities and tax / financial considerations?

square button How is being a consultant different from being an executive?

square button What will be the impact on me, or my family, if I go ahead?

square button And, finally, is being a consultant right for me personally?

Being able to combine our experience of large and small consultancies and that of career consultants makes us uniquely qualified to provide help and support to those wanting to investigate and try the SYOCB option.
